Walkie-Talkies

If you want to solve a problem, you have to walk the talk!

Walkie-talkies are loosely guided conversations that descend into valleys and climb to great heights. With blood pumping in our veins and the changing environment stimulating our brains we dare to challenge our assumptions and surprise ourselves in articulating fresh ideas.

We run ad hoc Walkie-Talkies open to the general public as the mood takes us and an interesting conversation feels like it needs thrashing out.

We are also happy to tailor-make Walkie-Talkies for groups of people that want to spend a day or half-day bonding over an issue and sharing revelations and blisters. Please get in touch if this sounds like you!

Our meetings of minds are made all the better when our bodies are preoccupied with putting one foot in front of the other.

Furthermore, there is a joyful inability to check your emails on the hoof in the sticks where there’s not even the regular distractions of eye-contact and body language as you walk single-file or side-by-side.

Charles Dickens once said: “There is no problem so great that it can’t be walked through.” Or was that Hemmingway? Or Wordsworth?

There’s a long list of great artists, leaders and thinkers who have attributed their greatness to the fact that they’ve also been great walkers! Kilter’s Walkie-Talkie programme is our humble bid to join the club!

Caroline and Olly have a long history of tramping the footpaths of this green and pleasant land and can absolutely trace landmark moments in Kilter’s creative journey to particular physical journeys in the landscape.

We brainstorm our 5-year plans on long traipses across windy Lansdown. We stir up pioneering environmental schemes plodding along the tow-path to Bradford on Avon. We clamber up Solsbury Hill during rehearsals to tease out knotty plot points & discover inspiration in the valleys at our feet.

“I just wanted to say what a great event Walking the Talk was! It was brilliantly led by Kilter Theatre… The conversations were engaging and I, amongst others, would welcome some more events like this.”

“Kilter have worked with us from the start of our Walking Festivals (2019 will be the third year). They have created innovative and fun events, aimed at getting people walking and talking. The walkie-talkies have proven popular and successful at engaging new audiences and we’ll be seeing more of them in future years.”
