Discover Bath’s fascinating scientific heritage as we take a walk around the city with real-life scientists!

How much do you know about the history of science in Bath? The city has a great cultural reputation but what about breakthroughs in astronomy, the science of pain, and dealing with the constant threat of flooding? On this very special two hour promenade through the city, led by our Artistic Director Olly, you will have the chance to meet a host of contemporary scientists from the University of Bath as they describe their own ground-breaking research and answer your questions in the landmarks that have played host to scientific innovation through the centuries.

Walking with Scientists is running as part of FUTURES, a series of free events taking place across Bath and Bristol on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September 2019, organised by the University of Bath, Bath Spa University and University of Bristol for European Researchers’ Night. European Researchers’ Night is a programme funded by the European Commission with the aim of engaging the public in celebrating the latest and most innovative research at a local and international level.

Meet Olly for a 1.30pm start at the main entrance to Bath Abbey. This is a drop in event, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, but please register online for more information and to keep up to date with any changes to the schedule.
